The long-term goal of Apple Watch

The techies have a great ability to say why things will not work but very bad to say why do go to work. This is a bug that got rid none. They have written dozens of articles and debated to unknown about why Apple Watch will fail limits, but rarely have we stopped to think why it might succeed.

There are a lot of doubts in the air that Apple must clear before marketing. Despite this, there are surveys that 10% and 18% of iPhone users would be interested in Apple Watch. Is something rash ask the audience for a product that is not available, but it serves to measure the level of trust and generated interest in the company's early adopters.

The next iPad could have Touch ID

Add to Flipboard Magazine.
When it introduced the iPhone 5S with Touch ID all thought the other Apple devices include the new identification system. Time passed and although out the iPad Air and iPad Mini (second generation), they never had the system installed. But recent rumors suggest that the new iPad will have built-Touch ID.

Apart from that found in iOS 7.1 source code, the rumor comes this time from the hardware part, specifically the company Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company which apparently would have provided Apple in mid-April the first batch of sensors touch, which would be designed for all future iOS devices, both a possible iPhone 6 as a Air iPad 2 and an iPad Mini 3.

That the next devices Touch ID is a logical move by Apple. And if it had not before is because it is quite likely that iPad and iPad Mini Air had the very advanced at the time of the presentation of the iPhone 5S.

Apple donates $ 500,000 to the anti-poverty initiative SF Gives

Add to Flipboard Magazine.
Fortune has confirmed today that Apple has donated $ 500,000 to the initiative SF Gives, fighting against poverty in the metropolitan area of San Francisco. Founded by Marc Benioff CEO of Salesforce and Daniel Lurie CEO of Tipping Point. SF Gives sought to today some 10 million dollars to give to charity programs.

Apple does not usually report donations of this type, but there have been some occasions when Cupertino has released grant programs in cases of natural disaster or in collaboration with their employees to NGOs.

Tech giants based in San Francisco are not in their best Popularity

The campaign, founded by tech giants and the giants technological bring good money, should help to improve the image. Apple, meanwhile, has also been working with the Product (RED) campaign.

Apple currently sells several versions (RED) iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano, iPod Touch, iPad Mini Smart Cover, iPad Air Smart Cover, iPad Air Smart Case, Bumper for iPhone 4s and 5s for iPhone.

Contributions through their Apple products labeled RED, go directly to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. Apple also contributes to this cause by changing its iconic logos of Apple Stores in the World AIDS Day goes from white to red for a day.

Samsung does it again: plan an event focused on health before the WWDC '14

Add to Flipboard Magazine.
Of a sudden, Samsung wants to talk about health. I think something similar to the disastrous attempt Galaxy Gear (both first and second generation) . It seems hasty to be the first to reach a field full of mines. Samsung is guided by rumors.

It is very curious as Samsung tries to imitate Apple to unimagined levels. This time again, Samsung is back with its own initiative focused on health devices. One issue about which I have spoken extensively. In fact, the level of copy has reached the surrealism.

Not only copied products, now copy filing dates to try to get ahead. As a personal opinion, I think they will return to present a "somewhat" trying empt Apple's plans. A product that even they know that it serves.

Not only copied products, now copy filing dates to try to get ahead. As a personal opinion, I think they will return to to present a somewhat trying empt Apple's plans. A product they do not even know that it serves.

Of course, Apple does not have exclusivity on health-related devices nor on when hold their events. But is that so far, Samsung had said little or nothing about to enter the world of accessories dedicated to health. And suddenly want "talk about health" and do so immediately before the conclusion of WWDC 2014 we know that one of the main issues will be precisely oriented gadgets health. Curious.

It seems that Samsung has seen the potential and growth of this new market niche and wants to make their own counter programming. Hope it is not so, despite the harsh differences between Samsung and Apple, the competition is always something that has a positive effect on the user and would be very sad to see how Samsung is quick in excess, failing in providing some interesting new single to present battle with Apple positioning. We'll see what he's up to Samsung.

Apple gains ownership of a patent on a new autofocus system for cameras

Add to Flipboard Magazine.
This is one of those wars that are win with patent regulators. This is one of those wars that are won with regulators patents. Apple has once again impose its views on a system that will greatly benefit the quality of future cameras iPhones and iPads. The title given to this pantente makes us understand the intentions and what will be the benefits that bring.

The patent is titled as "MEMS Autofocus actuator". The acronym MEMS means "micro-electrical mechanical systems". The system has been used so far Apple is the VCM (Voice Coil Motor), which in the same patent at hand is represented as a slow system when focus and energy intensive.

The patent indicates that this new system will consume less power, be able to focus faster and also allows the fabrication of smaller devices. But against that item is not exactly simple to manufacture. The patent dates from 2012, its inventor is Richard J. Topliss and even allow us to focus images after shooting.

Only in Cupertino know if this is a technology that we will see in the next iPhone 6 or later. But such a technology would be well received.

Tools for creating storyboards in iOS (Part 2)

Add to Flipboard Magazine.

Storyboards , simple and efficient application. Similar to the views on Mac but with a better finish at the interface level and the advantages of working on the iPad. Where else can we take our storyboard always with us. And it's free.

Compositor Storyboard, payment but it is interesting. We can place items like notes, camera position, camera and more. Also we will add photos taken with our iPhone or iPad which can be useful if you're shooting on location.

Technology and the analog world

Strangely there are not many applications of this type. It really is that for large productions and there dedicate yourselves to do the storyboard and make use of applications like Photoshop and van scenes organizing teams otherwise.

So looking for more alternatives I came across a very simple but practical method. This involves making use of the drawing application that we like such as Paper, Penultimate in iOS abd similar but in the OSX Gimp then these drawings will schematize each scene took them to ComicLife. Yes, it's easy, it's something we could do a thousand other ways but if you test I think you will like.

And of course if there are not many scenes do you prefer or simply be being more analog, we will always have a pencil and paper.

Tools for creating storyboards in OS X (Part 1)

Add to Flipboard Magazine.

When creating a storyboard technology offers certain options, if it is a large project, useful and practical. Not to mention not having to carry a stack of papers above is always appreciated. Therefore, I have decided to seek applications for Mac and iOS that allow us to create a storyboard.

Of course, there are listed a bit of everything, some of them will seem the past because their interfaces are nothing but attractive if they meet their duties is enough in this case. We started with the Mac.

Storyboarding in OS X

The first is StoryBoard Quick. Basically it is a database of images that can be inserted to recreate various scenes of our short film, advertisement, ... These elements in turn can rotate, change in size and position. It is not pleasant visually but does not seem a bad option.

The same developer offers a more complete version, StoryBoard Quick Studio, and a version to take our iPad and other options that you can see on their website, PowerProduction Software. Although its price, $ 249, more than one will dismiss it quickly.

Another option is Toonboom Storyboard Pro. We could define it as a drawing application where each of them will be one of our project plans. These will be organized in the application itself and can rearrange them with drag and drop. It may not be perfect but it is certainly the one that has convinced me.

FrameForge Previz Studio is also an application for creating storyboard tool able to animate the scenes, something that may be helpful to some but that means extra work that may not be necessary.

Apple purchases 24 companies in 18 months

Add to Flipboard Magazine.

Another important data revealed by Tim Cook during the presentation of financial results has been the number of companies that Apple has purchased in the last 18 months. This figure is 24 and only some of which have been disclosed.

Thus, purchases of PrimeSense, Burstly or HopStop would join others that have not yet been disclosed but Apple would help in the development and improvement of both current and future products that are coming. In addition, the CEO himself pointed out that 15 of them were strategic acquisitions in 2014 and will produce additional.

How to take advantage of the talent and technology of each of the acquired companies, it is in some cases easier to intuit. For example, should improve Burstly Xcode while HopStop offer new services and improvements in products like iOS 8 and their maps. Then PrimeSense would bring gesture control to AppleTV (although that is speculated).

One way or another, Apple remains committed to research and development, expanding their teams with talented people. Do you have more desire to Keynote and you discover what we have prepared the company for this 2014 now?

Apple and its ecosystem become more accessible consumer technology

Add to Flipboard Magazine.

The accessibility of technology is something that if you do not live in first person or someone close, do not you stop to think. But also of those things that when you start to scratch the surface, appear very human stories featuring amazing people. People who despite having a lot against are able to overcome all the barriers that are imposed and do the same as a normal person. Those are the stories that I've always liked.

It is these people who Apple has always paid special attention to the design of some accessible products. The commitment of the Cupertino company in making technology reach all noticeable and is something we have been reflected here.

An electronic life

"Overview of Accessibility Features in iOS 7". This video provides a general overview of some of the new features for accessibility in iOS 7. These features are covered in more detail in video channel.

The California company makes efforts to ensure that these technologies come as standard on all their products, for example, in OS X have these accessibility features:

  • As VoiceOver screen reader.
  • Zoom up to 20x on screen elements.
  • Dictation to write instead of talking.
  • Invert Colors.
  • Screen flicker when playing Alert.

iOS And we have these other accessibility incorporated some of OS X, including:
  • From iOS 7 can control your phone with our head gestures.
  • Siri is gaining more and more features, you can review them all at this link.
  • VoiceOver, dictation, zoom and invert colors.
  • Visual alerts with flash and custom vibration.
And this kind of facilities to carry blind people like Stevie Wonder praise at the time VoiceOver improvements of saying that "there is nothing you can do with an iPhone or an iPad that I can not". Or blind anonymous as Tomy Edison VoiceOver and use the combo to use Siri Twitter, Youtube and any other app.

Provide accessibility solutions is easier than ever for developers of third-party companies and accessories. I truly believe that this does not matter to him that Apple copied over the competition.

Apple vs Samsung: Google agrees to protect Samsung against charges of patent infringement

Add to Flipboard Magazine.
Google two years ago agreed to cover some of Samsung's potential legal costs as protection against Apple's latest multibillion-dollar patent lawsuit, a rare glimpse into how closely the two companies aligned themselves in the smartphone wars, a federal court jury learned Tuesday.

Apple disclosed emails and letters showing that Google executives agreed to pay some of Samsung's legal costs if it loses its patent fight against Apple. Apple unveiled the evidence to show that Samsung and Google are intertwined. The tactic was meant to undermine Samsung's argument that it has nothing to do with whether Google-based technology integral to its smartphones and tablets violates Apple's patent rights.

Central to Samsung's defense is its argument that Apple should have targeted Google because the patents at issue in the trial are based on Google's technology and its Android operating system, which has run Samsung smartphones and tablets.

But Apple put the previously secret 2012 Google agreements in front of the jury to bolster its position that Google's role is irrelevant because Samsung controls the technology it includes and sells in its own smartphones and tablets.

The evidence surfaced as Apple and Samsung reach the final stage of their epic federal court showdown. The Google indemnity agreements cover two of the five patents Apple has asserted in the trial.

Google representatives could not be reached for comment.

With a few pieces of testimony left to finish Friday, lawyers for the feuding smartphone powers will turn to finalizing a thick packet of instructions for the eight-member jury and head to closing arguments Monday.

On Thursday, Samsung wrapped up its case against Apple, which is accused of violating two of the South Korean tech giant's patents, including one video patent alleged to be involved in the iPhone's FaceTime feature. A Samsung expert told the jury that Apple should pay about $6 million for infringing those patents.

Apple argues that its technology does not infringe any Samsung patents.

Samsung's case against Apple, however, is a sideshow to the four-week trial's main event. Apple has urged the jury to find that Samsung smartphones and tablets violate five software patents in iPhones and iPads, and has asked the jury to award about $2.2 billion in damages.

Samsung disputes infringing those patents, arguing they were for the most part developed by Google as part of its Android operating system. In addition, a Samsung expert has valued the Apple patents at about $38 million, a fraction of the royalties sought by the iPhone maker.

The jury could begin deliberating as soon as Monday afternoon.

The trip to iWatch

Add to Flipboard Magazine.
Revolutions in technology occur when devices become everyday. We were seduced by the rumors, mirages of photomontages and excitement in presentations until the amazement of having it in our hands. Imagine the possibilities of a route initiated by any product that changes the rules and then spent the next.

We live in a world of information and revolutionary products. We are in an incredible moment in the history of our evolution: we've got the technology to get things that we had decades dreaming, and happens so often that not only got used to the speed. We asked for more. And run for it. But to realize the amazing changes and not have to read to leading analysts, or contrast thousand sources to see what they say currents of opinion. We have to go outside. Walking on the beach. Look at our surroundings.

Ten years ago, to see a mother take pictures of your child with a smartphone, in high resolution, and distribute the internet from the same sea, we would like an article of science fiction. Having hundreds of applications for just about anything, have a multi touch screen to us in your pocket, a tablet with the power of today ... just do not exist. Revolutions are not created with the concept of the product, but when it is installed in our lives. If we realize that, we will smile when we see all that we have achieved and what is already ingrained in our society.

But there are changes that must come. Do you have time?

Nike, Apple and the future.
One of the most interesting news of the weekend was the cancellation by Nike hardware unit responsible for making their popular Fuelband and the decision to continue a software developing and enhancing their sport system. It's an interesting move, in many respects. Let's talk about two.

First, Nike makes sure that it really feeds your business interactions with customers, is very much alive thanks to the "opening" Fuel system points to third party manufacturers. This allows the company to continue working on integrating its content in future new devices from other companies without spending a penny on a hardware division facing more problems than anything else. It seems they do not know quite what they had in hand, publishing opinions on them even in the social network anonymous Secret. Recall that Nike was one of the first companies to dive into the "wearables" devices.
Second, Apple. Let's talk about movements: The Cupertino company takes months (maybe years) providing certain pieces in precise locations. I do not believe in coincidences, or fate, but I do believe in the plans: in August last year became public that Jay Blahnik, one of the key elements in the creation of the Fuelband, Apple were busy. In September we also learned that Ben Shaffer, head of innovation and new products in Nike, we also went to swell the list of our friends in Cupertino.

In Nike were the first to approach the world of "weareables" and now all that knowledge can be focused on a new Apple product ...

For years, the relationship between Nike and Apple has had great moments. The launch of Nike + iPod program launched in 2006 was a tremendous success, and one of the first major attempts to approach the "wearable" technology that is so fashionable today. They are great experts on staff quantification years. What better ally than them for a new product...of Apple?

If you now waved a meeting of the Board of Directors of Nike, you know who we find? At a certain Tim Cook. The current CEO of Apple no doubt has influenced the direction of the company to direct and concentrate efforts, Nike, to focus on developing its market, and Apple, to take advantage of all that know-how and concentrate on something new. Being Prepared: market research firms such as Morgan Stanley and warn that it is very good time to invest in Apple because in 2014 expected something big.

It's not a race, is a goal
Can we find one of the best "iWatch" imagined. However, it is still too predictable and competence like what Apple could present.

Actually, we call it "iWatch" by having a term to which refirnos the device, not because they necessarily have to be what you describe. As we called "iPhone" to your Apple then was much more than a phone. In fact it turned out to be far more than anyone imagined, and that ability to surprise in a market full of great visionaries, is one of the best features of Apple.

Ultimately, it is never the first. A couple of months ago I could see first hand at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona as other brands presented their "wearables" proposals with an eye askance at a company that not even attending the event. The word and say "see that Apple has" was more than real, were almost approaching storm clouds and have reasons. Were not the first with the Macintosh, or the iPod, or the iPhone, or the iPad. Are not the first, but are defining. And it's terrible to have a contest and stalking.

You can also think that the market for "wereables" is not as attractive as the above. Well, if you think that retroceded in time several months before the release of each product: anyone need a computer at home, the iPod is no more expensive than a music player with no future, "I do not want an iPhone because I just need to call and send messages "and the tablets are not useful there laptops. Now look around you. You smile??

The iWatch that we imagine

I'm using the Nike Fuelband wristband and I have a smart clock Pebble. I have explored the way that these devices can provide and assure you that the future is so broad that can mark almost a new category in itself. They have begun as a "complement" to our smartphones and few of them take advantage of the potential so close to our bodies. Not only with applications that already imagine, but to help us be more healthy, stay healthy and to measure and improve our physical capabilities. And there are also many signings in the field of medicine that are already in Apple.

Apple's goal is to not be predictable in a new device that real sense of this new category

If you ask me as you hope it is the "iWatch" I will say that I hope I do not look like any of its competitors, but who can see them all in what works and what does not. We can all imagine what a miniature screen with a wrist strap, but only Apple can give a return to the concept. And this company does not have to ask unless we want it back to being 1984, 2001, 2007 and 2010 I want to go talk about this 2014, in an article in five years and refer to it as the year in which Apple got it again.

We imagine the future: we think we are walking in the park, on the beach or traveling to the other end of the world and someone, somewhere, has something in her wrist did not get to imagine now. Nobody looks at that person, or that device. All carry one, and does things that amaze us now.

That point, that moment, that exact point in the future, is that we travel today.

Some amazing and strange anecdotes about my God, Steve Jobs

Add to Flipboard Magazine.
Steve Jobs, above all, was a person like any other, with their eccentricities and foibles. Just today I have some of the most curious and surprising anecdotes about the life of the charismatic former CEO of Apple.

Although many facts about the history of Steve Jobs, many great feats and an almost mythical image, the fact is that first of all, Steve Jobs was a human, eccentric, witty but ordinary being. Here are some anecdotes that speak a little of the background of this genius that both influenced the world of technology.

Steve Jobs and money

Oddly enough, Jobs was not always a rich guy. Quite the contrary. In her meager beginnings Steve Jobs passed hard times of hardship. The strange thing about it is that, in many cases seemed to give the same. For example, one of Steve Jobs anecdotes told by his ex-girlfriend and mother of Lisa:
According Chrisaan for Rolling Stone explained, at a time when they had no money either and after a genuine act of waste according to the situation (go to movies and dining out), returning to the car they found a fine of 25 dollars for parking. This led to a time of discussion in which Steve Jobs, after a long time patient, getting angry and ended with a cool calm, threw coins and notes they had left to the sea. As if to say that the money was not worth much discussion. But despite desperately need it.
LISA

Talking about Lisa, many will wonder who she is. Lisa is the result of the relationship between Chrisaan Brennan and Steve Jobs. Name also put the first computer that was creating by Jobs, confirming later: "it clear that we named my daughter" we talking about Lisa, the company's computer. Then the marketing team did their job to sell the acronym, though, developers have sometimes used these initials as a joke, before the mystery as the acronym Let's Invent Some Acronym.

Why are you working?

Another Steve Jobs anecdotes counts as one day, Heidi Roizen, CEO of T / Market and distributes software for Apple long ago received a call from Jobs to discuss negotiations. By starting the conversation, Roizen told him that his father had died while she was traveling in Paris. "What are you doing working?" Jobs replied immediately, "Go home, go your way." When he spoke to her, his attention was delicate and extreme, she says Roizen, probably because his own mother had died a few months ago.

The problem with hygiene

Not everything that surrounds Steve Jobs was socially correct. Like all eccentrics and geniuses of the world, had some rather quirky ways. Among them are some hygiene problem. Among other things, Steve Jobs enjoyed mainly fish, rejecting any other meat. By eliminating other meats, Jobs thought his body was free of unpleasant odors, so you do not need or showering too frequently or wear deodorant.

So says Walter Isaacson, his authorized biographer who has this and other anecdotes about Steve Jobs. Another anecdotal account of Steve Jobs when he was working as Atari, he was moved to the night shift because of their lack of bodily cleanliness or strange habit of walking around the office barefoot. It also has a biography of Jobs' favorite activities to de-stress during the early years of the company was to wash his feet in the toilet of Apple.

Steve Jobs Monk

Although it is a well known fact, Steve Jobs practiced Buddhism in a very applied way. It was so fond of this philosophy that there was a time when his aspiration was to become a Buddhist monk. One of the anecdotes of Steve Jobs has as after a trip to India, with one of his best friends from Reed College, came back with a shaved head. Very different from the young long-haired Steve Jobs we all remember, and having embraced Buddhism.

iOS could integrate Shazam among its services

Add to Flipboard Magazine.
Rumors have risen around iTunes, Siri and iOS 8: Is Apple preparing to integrate a similar service Shazam on your operating system? So say sources close to the project and have decided to remain anonymous.
Until recently talked about Siri is lagging behind in terms of performance, Apple is not willing to let this happen easily. According to the latest rumors (Bloomerang) the company would be willing to add some kind of service similar to Shazam on iOS, and it could be announced at WWDC 2014.

They claim in the publication, several sources related to the project (do not want to be identified) have discussed the existence of this function in development. This would of application being developed with the help of Shazam Entertainment's own, who is collaborating with technology stored in his company, to meet an interesting trade agreement between the two.

The function, as mentioned, could be presented at the next WWDC. The data suggest that this would come in Shazam on iOS iOS 8 and will not be available before. The integration of this function would be very similar to other services such as Twitter or Facebook, to maximize your comfort.

We know that Apple is one of the companies that invest more money in the music industry, not only in the development of platforms as powerful as iTunes but throughout the technology behind the algorithms of identification and labeling songs. This measure could serve as an additional feature and very interesting to Siri.

Apple, the company that appeals to the heart

There are three forces that drive the world: love, money and power. The most lethal threesome in history. For they have unleashed wars, conquered countries and betrayed ancient alliances. While money and power can explain and reason with relative ease to any person, is not true love.

Love, feelings and emotions are what make us human. Irrational people. Unpredictable. In beings do B when clearly should be doing A. What does this have to do with a technology blog about Apple? Everything.

What is Apple's game?

Apple sells technology surrounded by sensations. This is not something that only appears in their advertisements, is inscribed in their DNA. During the presentation of the iPad 2 over 3 years ago, Steve Jobs said that famous phrase:
“It’s in Apple’s DNA that technology alone is not enough. That it’s technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the result that makes our hearts sing”  (Steve Jobs).
Technology and Art, two areas that were reluctant to mix as if it were water and oil together in a mass consumption company. It was not the first nor the last to do so. We had a Sony for much of the '80s and '90s with its incredible Walkman and its iconic Braun juicers. Now comes to my head and Tesla electric super car.

What makes it so Apple is putting money in the background. They're not hippies looking good and world peace, no. It is also a business and as such need to earn money, if in large quantities, the better. But there is a difference between that money is your ultimate goal or simply resource.
